Citicorp denies gun transactions

Folks, I'm not that savvy to transfer/cut /paste posts from one forum site to the next on the internet, but there is a very interesting recent post about Citicorp denying credit card purchases for customers of a major gun/ammo internet dealer in Texas, CDNN.
Can someone here go to TB2K... Timebomb2000.com and shuffle the post to this site?
I think it's worth a looksee..
Thanks, brewer

Citicorp Refuses to Process Firearms Transactions

The NSSF reports that Citicorps Merchant Services Division is refusing to process gun-related customer credit-card sales. This applies both to legal firearms transactions conducted through licensed FFLs as well as ordinary sales of firearms accessories. The first company to be affected by this decision appears to be firearms distributor CDNN Sports, a large retail operation based in Texas. Citi Merchant Services and First Data notified CDNN that its merchant services account would be terminated and funds seized. (Citicorp Merchant Services employs First Data Merchant Services Corporation to handle credit card transactions.)

Charlie Crawford, president of CDNN Sports Inc., explained: We were contacted recently by First Data/Citi Merchant Services by a June Rivera-Mantilla stating that we were terminated and funds were being seized for selling firearms in a non-face-to-face transaction. Although perfectly legal, we were also informed that no transactions would be processed in the future, even for non-firearms.

If you have a Citigroup credit card, or use Citibank for your banking services, you may want to consider shifting your accounts to another financial services provider and be sure you tell the Citibank representatives why you are making the shift. If gun owners act in solidarity, other credit card companies may think twice about following Citigroups lead in refusing to handle gun transactions. To voice your concern to Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp. directly, you can contact June Rivera-Mantilla at 631-683-7734 or her supervisor Robert Tenenbaum at 631-683-6570.

If you run a firearms-related business and wish to shift to an NSSF-affiliated credit card processing program, contact Payment Alliance International at 1-866-371-2273 (ext. 1131).

This reminds me of when the phone company used to charge more for a fax line than a voice line ... right up until someone sued them for illegal spying.

This is nonsense. You are shifting from CitiBank to BofA when citi denies gun transactions, and from BofA back to Citi when BofA gives credit cards to illegals. It doesn't accomplish anything
The way to do it is switch to cash and money orders

I love CDNN, great price on glock mags. What a crazy policy decision by citi. First Data just got bought by private equity and went private a couple of months ago.

Before everyone gets their panties in a knot it should be noted that this is the operative sentence
"selling firearms in a non-face-to-face transaction."
It's not the fact that it was firearms but the non face to face that got them in trouble.
When you sign up for credit card transactions there are different costs associated with it. You pay alot more % when selling via the internet due to the higher cost of fraud. Basically they probably thought they were getting over on Citi and they got caught and Citi will responded giving no quarter and try and recoup from past sales that were put through via the internet.

I have no love for CC companies but as everyone know if you deal with the devil you better cover your a$$

Can we get any confirmation? I see nothing about this on CDNN's website.

Ringhunter, that is the way the large wholesellers sell firearms. You give the wholeseller a CC# or a check and they ship the firearm to your local FFL, whom you pay a fee to for the privilege. Been that way since the Gun Control Act of 1968. Nothing sleazy or abnormal about it.

Re: Citicorp denies gun transactions

Not saying it's sleazy or crooked, just that you have to sign up for the program with the card company at the higher rates for internet transactions or non face to face ones. They look like they were paying for the lower less risky face to face but operating an internet operation that should have much higher % cost, basically short change the card company.
p.s. They don't like it
